A motor vehicle accident in Augusta, GA, sent three to the hospital with minor injuries. The accident which occurred around 7:00 P.M. involved two sport utility vehicles.  The driver that caused the collision was reported to be operating a handheld cell phone at the time of the accident.

First reports indicate that a man who was driving an SUV was dialing to make a phone call. When he looked up it was too late. The driver tried to swerve to avoid crashing into another SUV. He slammed into the right bumper before hitting a utility pole. The passenger in his vehicle along with a passenger and driver in the other vehicle were transported to a local hospital.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Heard Avenue and Walton Way.

Traffic was backed up several blocks on Heard and Walton while debris was being cleaned from the roadway. There are no further reports at this time.

2 Accidents on 99E in Portland Sends 4 to Hospital

An accident on Route 99 East sent three people to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. The accident happened sometime around 3:30 p.m. when a vehicle attempted to make a U-turn at the intersection of South Anderson road when an oncoming vehicle slammed into the side of the vehicle and rolled over.

Both drivers and a passenger were immediate taken to a nearby hospital and are all in stable condition.

This was the first of two accidents which happened on Route 99. The second accident happened sometime past 7:15 when a motorcyclist allegedly swerved into a 4 door sedan and lost control of his bike. According to witnesses the cyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed before trying to swerve in between two vehicles.

The rider was transported to a nearby hospital and is being treated with a broken arm and fractured leg.
The accident caused a major slowdown during the evening commute while ambulance and emergency units attended to the scene of the accident.

Cab Driver in Portland Crashes Into Building

According to first reports officials are saying that the car accident in Portland, Oregon this evening which injured two pedestrians was the result of a cab driver. Investigators are saying that a cab driver whom has been identified as Moktar Mohamud Mohamed, a driver for Broadway Cab Company, ran a red light at the intersection of Southwest Morrison Street and 10th Avenue.

Police said the collision sent the cab onto a sidewalk severely injuring two pedestrians before colliding into a nearby building. The cab driver sustained minor injuries while there were no reported injuries to the other driver. The two women whom have been identified as Dian Rae Bennett and Lora Lee Nearing were transported to a nearby hospital and being treated with severe leg injuries.

According to witnesses near the scene of the accident, the cab driver ran a red light before crashing into a BMW at the intersection. One of the witnesses told police the cab was going pretty fast.

Police shut down the intersection for a period of time while officials investigating the scene of the accident before cleanup crews removed the vehicle from the building and cleaned up debris from the roadway.

Police don’t believe that drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. They did indicate that speed could have played a part in the wreck.

The investigation is ongoing.

Bicyclist Hit at Intersection in Austin

A 32-year-old man was struck by a Suburban on Wednesday remains hospitalized with serious injuries, according to local officials.

The accident was reported around 1:45 Wednesday afternoon near intersection of North Lamar Boulevard and West 45th Street.  According to the reports a driver of a Suburban pulled out of a Chili’s Restaurant and was trying to beat the light.  The witness said, “I saw the Suburban in the corner of my eye exiting the park lot and pulling out much too quickly. “The last thing I saw was the bicyclist getting tossed across the street.” The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital with head, hand and leg injuries.

The driver that hit him didn’t pull over right away,” she said.  “I believe the driver was in disarray and couldn’t believe what just happened. The driver ended up pulling over around 100 feet from the accident and exited the vehicle to attend to the victim.

The latest report is the injuries are not life threatening however they are severe. When emergency units arrived at the scene of the accident they were met by close to a dozen people that were attending to the victim.

The driver was cited with reckless driving. There are no other reports pertaining to the crash.

11th Street & San Jacinto Boulevard Accident in Austin

Three people were hurt when a truck ran a red light, hit a passenger car and forced another vehicle to swerve into a parked vehicle at the intersection of East 11th Street and San Jancinto Boulevard, less than a mile from the University of Texas at Austin.

The crash occurred around 11:25 a.m.

A witness that was standing on the sidewalk of the La Quinta Inn told police the truck was speeding down 11th Street before crossing into the intersection. The next she knew the truck t-boned a passenger vehicle causing a mult-car crash. Another motorist that was traveling behind the passenger vehicle swerved and hit another vehicle parked on the side of the road. There were no pedestrians hit.

All three drivers were taken to a nearby hospital and treated with non life threatening injuries.

The roadway was closed for over an hour while the wreckage and debris was being removed.

There are no further reports as the accident is still under investigation.

This was the second accident in as many weeks. An accident last week involving a pickup truck and motorcycle sent the cyclist to the hospital with lacerations to his arms and hands.

Crash Outside of Austin Injures 2

Two people are hospitalized after a two-vehicle accident that occurred around 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, on Interstate 35 (Interregional Highway).  The crash happened about ¼ mile from exit 234 B.

According to local officials, two vehicles that were driving on I-35 in a black Nissan Armada was speeding before losing control of their vehicle and colliding into a pickup truck.  The driver of the Nissan Armada passed over two lanes before crashing into the left side of the pickup truck. The pickup truck collided into a Ford Explorer before coming to a complete stop.

Two people were taken to a local hospital and are being treated with injuries and one person was treated at the scene of the accident. The two individuals who have not yet been identified are said to be in stable condition with non life threatening injuries.

According to reports, the driver of the Armada was under the influence of alcohol and drugs and was charged with driving under the influence and reckless driving.

There are no further reports at this time.

Accident on Ponchartrain Expressway Injures 1

A 27-year-old man was hit by an SUV is currently hospitalized with serious but non-life threatening injuries, according to the latest report. The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene of the accident.

The accident occurred Tuesday night on the Ponchartrain Expressway (Route 90) in New Orleans.  The driver was heading West on 90 about a mile from the Loyola Avenue exit when the driver of a white SUV lost control of his vehicle and slammed into the driver’s sedan. The 27-year-old man was immediately transported to Oschner Baptist Medical Center with injuries to his left leg and head.

Several motorists traveling behind the accident pulled onto the side of the road and exited their vehicle. According to a witness, the driver of the SUV abruptly swerved into the right lane and collided into the left side of the car.

The driver of the SUV told police he dropped his cell phone and was trying to retrieve it. He said the cell phone dropped from his lap and ended up next to his right foot. When he went down to retrieve the cell phone he lost control of his vehicle and slammed into the sedan.

The accident caused major delay on Route 90 West and minor delays on Route 90 East. Drugs and alcohol has been ruled out. There are no further reports at this time and the accident is still under investigation.

Tow Truck Crash on Baronne Street Injures 1

A man driving a 2009 Ford Explorer was injured today at the cross section of Julia Street and Baronne. The accident happened around 3:00 pm Wednesday afternoon.

According to a witness statement a tow truck was heading down Julia Street, a one way street, and went through the light before colliding with the Ford Explorer. The light had just turned green and the Explorer was approaching the middle of the roadway before the driver slammed into the left front-end of the vehicle.
The names of both drivers have not yet been released.

It took several minutes before emergency units showed up at the scene of the accident. The driver was immediately removed from his vehicle and transported to a nearby hospital where he is being treated with a head and collarbone injury. The driver of the tow truck was not injured.

One of the witnessed that heard the accident said, “It was like a big explosion.” When she approached the scene of the accident to find out what happened she said, “I was shocked to see the Explorer was still intact.” The bumper of the Explorer was separated from the front of the vehicle.

Officials have not yet released whether the accident was alcohol related and the crash is still under investigation. There are no further reports on the severity of the injuries sustained by the man driving the Explorer.

Tragic Accident Kills New Orleans Woman

The New Orleans woman that was killed in a motor vehicle accident on Tuesday night has been identified as Norma Jefferson, 60 years of age. Jefferson was identified by the New Orleans Parish Coroner’s office after a catastrophic accident at the intersection of Jackson and Tchoupitoulas.

The accident happened late Tuesday evening when a driver, later identified as Steven Wallace, was speeding down Jackson Avenue. According to reports the Wallace was driving a Chevrolet Astro van when his vehicle slammed into a Jeep Cherokee driven by Jefferson.

Jefferson was traveling northbound on Tchoupitoulas Street when the accident happened. Jefferson was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The New Orleans Coroner’s office told local officials that Jefferson may have died from severe injuries to the head or internal injuries. The exact cause is still unknown.

There is still an on-going investigation of whether Wallace was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash. The investigation should be complete once blood samples are administered and evaluated.

Accident on MacArthur Causeway Injures One

Westbound lanes of the MacArthur Causeway were closed for almost two hours during the early morning commute after an accident between a motorcyclist and cab driver.

The accident occurred sometime around 5:15 am when the rider collided into the cab. The motorcyclist was immediately rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital. It is still not reported whether the rider sustained minor or life threatening injuries. The driver of the cab was not hurt.

According to Miami Beach officials emergency and clean-up crews were immediately called to the scene of the accident. The clean-up crews spent over an hour and a half cleaning up debris and wreckage from the crash.
Traffic was detoured to Venetian and Julia Tuttle causeways. Police are still investigating the accident and there are no further reports on the seriousness of injuries.

There was an accident earlier in the week on MacArthur Causeway that caused minor damages to an SUV and pick-up truck. According to past reports the driver of a 2001 Chevy Pick-up truck slammed into the back of an SUV during stop and go traffic. There were no reported injuries.
