In the News:

A 34-year-old Syosset man was injured Friday morning when he was hit by a car while crossing Jericho Turnpike at Michael Drive around 7:30 a.m., according to local authorities on Long Island.

The man was crossing the road, when a car side swiped him. The man who has not yet been identified suffered non life threatening injuries.

A witness at the scene of the accident ran out into the turnpike and lifted the man up and carried him to the corner of Michael Drive. The witness later said he ran out in front of man and put his hand up as oncoming vehicles approached.

When authorities showed up at the scene of the accident they detected a smell of alcohol coming from the man that was struck by the vehicle. They did not conduct a sobriety test at the scene of the accident because the victim was shortly rushed to a local nearby hospital where he is being treated for injuries sustained to his right side of his body.

The driver of the car has not been cited or ticketed in connection with the accident.
Jericho Turnpike is a busy road but it has traffic lights. The driver indicated the light was green and he did not see the pedestrian until it was too late. He indicated he tried to swerve out of the way but was not able to avoid the hitting the man.

The intersection was not closed because the man was able to get to the side of the road within seconds of the accident occurring. Local authorities are still investigating the crash.
