Icy Conditions Cause Several Accidents

Heavy snow is causing problems in areas in and around Pittsburgh.  Accidents south of Fort Pitts Bridge, I-279 and I-376 have been blamed because of slippery and icy roads. All three accidents happened within hours of each other. Roads coming into and out of Pittsburgh are seeing long backups for commuters in the city. Earlier in the afternoon, there was one crash that sent 2 people to the hospital with minor injuries.

Up to five inches of snow is likely in the metro area with heavier pockets of snow likely north of the city. Snow trucks are out in full force and crews are using salt on the primary and secondary roads. Local officials are advising motorists traveling in and out of the city to use caution and plan more time for travel. Earlier in the day there were two reported accidents but no injuries were reported.
