Accident near Paramus NJ Injures 1
A 23 year old woman lost control of her vehicle this afternoon, possibly because of blown tire. The woman was driving on state highway 208 in Bergen County, New Jersey when she struck another vehicle on the two lane highway before crashing into the left barrier. The driver, whose name has not yet been released, was traveling on state highway 208 near Paramus, when her 2008 Nissan Maxima began swerving out of control.
Whether the tire blew because the driver ran over something in the road is still unclear. According to reports, the driver of the Maxima was taken to a nearby hospital and under evaluation. In the News:
On Monday, April 5th, a New Jersey court of appeals upheld a verdict in a mesothelioma lawsuit that resulted in a 30.3 million dollar award to a family in NJ. The lawsuit resulted in the largest cash award for an asbestos case ever in the state. The lawsuit was brought on by Susan Buttitta, whose husband Mark Buttitta died from the exposure of asbestos. Mr. Buttitta died in 2002 from lung cancer.
The verdict will compensate the Buttitta family for pain and suffering, loss of consortium, lost of wages and loss of parental care. The lawsuit awarded to the Buttitta family will be paid by Borg Warner Corporation and Asbestos Corporation Limited; three other companies involved in the lawsuit settled their case either before or during the trial.
Thousands of people each year die from the exposure of asbestos. Direct exposure and secondary exposure to asbestos is a leading cause of mesothelioma, lung cancer and other related illnesses. Asbestos exposure is most common in old factories, ship yards, mines, constructions sites, old building and even some homes. If you believe you’ve been exposed to asbestos it’s highly recommended you seek immediate medical attention.
