2 Injured outside of Mount Vernon

A multicar accident on northbound RT 1, south of Mount Vernon, tied up traffic and sent two people to the hospital. The extent of the injuries is still unknown.

The accident was reported just after 9 at Route 1 just south of Mount Vernon, VA.

Initial reports said that two vehicles, a Ford Explorer and SUV, were involved in an accident. When units showed up to the scene of the accident, there was one other vehicle which was also involved in the incident.

Route 1 was closed in both directions for about 30 minutes. After the northbound lanes were cleared, traffic moved slowly for about an hour. One witness said that she saw the tail end of the accident and witnessed the third vehicle colliding into the Ford Explorer.

While the extent of the injuries is still unknown they are being reported as non life threatening. The investigation is ongoing and there are no further details available at this time.

Minor Injuries Reported after Accident

An accident involving at least four vehicles tied up traffic on US Route 1 near Augusta. The incident happened shortly after 7 p.m. There were three people that were transported to the hospital but reports indicate no injuries were life threatening.

The accident slowed traffic while police and EMS responded to the scene of the accident. The accident slowed traffic for close to an hour while vehicles were towed and clean-up crews removed debris from the road. The accident is still under investigation.
