I-15 Accident is Fatal

1 woman killed when her vehicle flew over 300 feet and crashed into an embankment.

A Salt Lake City, UT woman was killed on Friday after her vehicle hit a retaining wall coming off I-15.   Her car flew over 300 feet across a pond and crashing into an embankment after exiting onto a ramp.

The 21-year-old who was later identified as Maria L. Mejia, was found in a Lincoln Town car resting on an embankment off of Interstate 15. Reports indicate a man driving semitrailer notified local police after seeing the car smashed and resting partially in the pond.

Authorities are still unsure of how the accident occurred because there are no witnesses. While they have no witnesses they believe the driver may have been speeding due to how far the vehicle landed from the exit on I-15. Police estimated the car dropped close to 70 feet from the ramp before hitting the embankment below.

Police are still investigating the accident.
