In the News:

A wrongful death lawsuit has been settled in Missouri after a teenager was killed in 2007, as a result of a high speed police pursuit. A trial was expected to begin on Monday, however the parents of the teenager decided to settle the claim for $275,000. The settlement will dismiss claims against the police and Medevac MidAmerica Inc. which both parties never admitted guilt.

The accident occurred in November of 07′ when Christopher Cooper was struck by a car being pursued by an Independence police officer. Mr. Cooper was crossing Noland road when a car collided into him while riding his bicycle.

Wilfredo Pujols Jr. an Independence resident pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree murder, resisting arrest and two counts of leaving the scene of a traffic accident. Jack Grate a Jackson County Circuit Judge sentenced Mr. Pujols 15 years in prison.

The lawsuit alleged that Independence police were liable for the accident because they did not follow the City’s police pursuit policy. The lawsuit also alleged that police and the emergency unit failed to properly assess Cooper’s injuries at the scene of the accident.

A lawsuit settlement for some families is a priority. It may give them the ability to move on with their lives or perhaps the family has certain financial obligations which otherwise can’t be met without a settlement. At LawLeaf we understand that some people can’t afford to settle for less. If you need a lawsuit cash advance because you are unwilling to settle for less than fair compensation, contact LawLeaf today.
