Wrongful Death Setttlement in New York
An 8.7 million dollar wrongful death claim was settled against New York City. The accident was a result of a Ferry crash when Jon Healy was killed in the crash. The accident occurred in 2003 when the ferry failed to stop when reaching the dock. According to reports the ferry crashed as a result of the pilot of the boat. Reports indicate that the pilot of the boat was on pain medication at the time of the accident. 11 people died and 50 were injured due to the accident.
The settlement was the largest wrongful death settlement in New York state. The operator of the boat plead guilty to manslaughter charges and is serving 18 months in prison.
